Welcome !

Our goal is:

"AGING  FIT  AS  A  FIDDLE"

I opened a coffee-shop for seniors in
Cuxhaven / Germany.

We not only serve free coffee, cake and pastries here,
we also help the elderly and teach them some exercises
to help them prevent Alzheimer disease.
A new study suggests that regular exercise
not only keeps people fit and healthy it may actually help
to prevent the onset of dementia.

Our work will get older people fit in mind and body,
offering them the chance to get physically active,
access preventative health support
and meet other older people at the same time.
Age should be no barrier when it comes to fitness.

But this was not really satisfying - that´s why
I founded the
"Institut of Geriatric Medizine & Gerontology Cuxhaven".

For now
follow some links to websites
which might be interesting to you:
The International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics(IAGG)
UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs - Ageing
International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA)
The Gerontological Society of America

The UN has identified 7 Millenium Development Goals:
Eradication of Poverty
Universal Education
Gender Equality
Reduction of Child Mortality
Maternal Health
Conquest of AIDS
Global Partnerships for Developement
While issues of ageing and older persons are not specifically
mentioned in the MDGs, in fact they cross-cut
all of these goals.

Please be patient with me:
My 84 years aged mother suffers from AMD,
Atrophic (dry form) Macular Degeneration.
I searched worldwide for drugs or treatment
and finally had a date now July 5, 2007
with Prof. Dr. med. Frank Koch in Frankfurt/Germany.
Here is the link to the clinik:
Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Eye Clinic, Frankfurt

It was a great experience in the clinic,
and what else can I say but a
BIG THANK YOU
Prof.Dr. Frank Koch !
Here are some photos from Frankfurt:

I made the 500 miles a two-days-trip,
and the night we spend in a hotel.

The entrance to the Eye-Clinic
It is a small town in the City of Frankfurt.

It was good to have the power chair with us.

I am very happy that we were in Frankfurt.
We have a new diagnosis now,
and I know how to treat my mother.

Why do I publish it all it ?
Because I just got started and this is a very first beginning.
I started to make connections in Germany, in Europe, and overseas.

Replies I received from USA:

NEUROTEC USA:
Dear Rolf,

It sounds like you are working hard to support the elderly, and we very much applaud and appreciate your effort!

Thank you for your enthusiasm and interest in our technology and our clinical trials.  These US studies will take two to three years to complete, and then the results will be submitted for review and consideration by the FDA.  Depending on the study outcomes and the favorability of the FDA's review, the treatment will either be made available, or will enter expanded clinical studies.  We are optimistic, but - as I am sure you can understand - we can not promise any specific timeline.  I would anticipate that additional studies may be undertaken overseas in order to facilitate regulatory approval of the technology outside the US, and potentially provide some benefit to patients in Germany and elsewhere, but please be aware that we can not address any specific timeline for that effort right now.

I hope this is helpful.

For now, we wish you and yours best regards, and good health ...

POTENTIA PHARMACEUTICALS:

Dear Rolf,
thank you very much for your email, it was very appreciated.  I am very touched by what you are accomplishing and I think the world needs more people like that.  As for our drug, at this point, we are only testing its safety in patients, not its efficacy, unfortunately.  We are testing the drug in a very small group of patients (15-18 patients) in a formulation that is not expected to provide therapeutic benefits.  If everything goes well, we will initiate a Phase II trial, that will involve a formulation that is expected to provide benefits, but that is probably not going to happen before mid-2008 at the earliest and will probably be limited to the US at that point.  Not that we won’t accept international patients, but that the treatment will be conducted at a specific number of US clinics.  Getting international centers involved would increase the logistics and legal complexities by a significant amount.

Thanks again and please, keep in touch!

Yes, I will keep in touch !
